Danceros 2010-2011: Tryout Information

May 8th, 2010

Greetings, Prospective Danceros!

We are one week away from tryouts, and I hope you’re getting more excited every day…I know I am!  Here is some late-breaking news which will keep you “in the know” as you prepare for next week’s H.B. Plant Dancero tryouts.

I.              Reminder…medical forms and teacher recommendations are due this Tuesday, May 11, 2010.  Thank you for doing such a timely job in getting teacher recommendation forms to your instructors…they are being turned in daily!

II.         Tryouts are being held in the Plant High School gymnasium Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday, May 17-19, from 4:30 – 6:30.  Finals will be on Thursday, May 20, at 5 pm.

III.       On the first day of tryouts, Monday, May 17, I will notify each girl of any missing teacher recommendations or medical forms.  You will also receive a number that will be worn each day of practice.  Wilson and Coleman Middle School girls, please arrive as soon as school is dismissed.  I will have typed notes for each of you about your paperwork needs.  Those of you whose schools are dismissed prior to 4:15 should plan on arriving a few minutes early for check-in.

IV.       A music CD will be available to you for practice during the week of tryouts.  Please bring $2 cash with you the first day of tryouts to offset the cost of the CD.

 V.        Many of you have inquired about specific skills you’ll need to be able to perform at tryouts.  Though I will share these with you again the first day of tryouts, here is a list of skills you can be practicing now: grand jete leaps; right and left split leap, right and left side leap; double and triple pirouette on right and left; 8 second-position turns into a double; and right and left split.  During the dance you can also be expected to perform a calypso, turning disc, barrel jump, and leg catch turn.

VI.       Since our orientation meeting, one major date change has taken place.  The Danceros will attend UDA camp from July 15-18 (Thursday through Sunday) at the St. Petersburg Renaissance Vinoy.  This is a change from the original June 29-July 1 date.  I apologize for any inconvenience but appreciate you noting this change and informing me of any conflicts PRIOR to tryouts.

VII.      There appear to be several events at local studios on Saturday, May 22, which is when our initiation luncheon is scheduled.  Though this is not a mandatory event, my desire is for all girls to be in attendance.  An announcement will be made about the date/time of that event during the week of  tryouts.

VIII.     Check out danceros.net during the coming week for news and information.  Remember, results will be posted there after Finals on Thursday, May 20.

Have a fantastic week!  I look forward to seeing you next Monday!

Please feel free to contact me at stephanie.sharpe@sdhc.k12.fl.us with any questions.
